David Majzlin, Renée Fleming – Bel Canto (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (2018) [FLAC 24 bit, 48 kHz]

Based on Ann Patchett’s best-selling novel, BEL CANTO is a dramatic love story that follows a famous soprano (Julianne Moore) who travels to a military dictatorship in South America to give a private concert at a party for a wealthy Japanese industrialist (Ken Watanabe). Just as the glittering gathering of diplomats and politicians convenes, the mansion is taken over by a guerrilla rebel group demanding the release of their imprisoned comrades. Threats are made, lives are lost, a tense negotiation begins, and a month long standoff ensues. While they are confined to the house, the hostages and their captors, who speak different languages, are forced to find ways to communicate. Music, especially the beautiful arias performed by Moore’s character, a songbird in captivity, sparks a shared sense of comradeship and even love, uniting the disparate housemates as they form unexpected bonds, overcome their differences, and discover their shared humanity.

The “extravagantly talented” (The New York Times) American organist Cameron Carpenter releases his first album on Decca Gold, a recording of J.S. Bach’s The Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 juxtaposed with his own transcription of American composer Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2 in D-flat Major, Opus 30, W45, “Romantic.” Both works are performed on Carpenter’s tailor-made instrument, the International Touring Organ, which was designed to allow him to perform at almost any location worldwide.

Decca Gold is proud to announce the forthcoming release of Sing Happy, the live performance of the New York Philharmonic’s 2018 Spring Gala starring Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald, conducted by Andy Einhorn. Recorded live on May 1 at David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, the recording represents McDonald’s first collaboration with Decca Gold – as well as her first solo recording with full orchestra.

Sing Happy features many songs that are either new to McDonald’s repertoire or have never before been recorded by her – such as “I Am What I Am” from La Cage aux Folles, “Vanilla Ice Cream” from She Loves Me, and “Children Will Listen” from Into The Woods– and offers a sneak peek at the repertoire she’s performing on her upcoming North American concert tour.
