Russian composer Nikolai Medtner left behind an amazing body of works for solo piano. This is the first volume in what will be an integral recorded edition of Medtner’s solo piano works, performed by Frank Huang. Frank Huang is a Steinway Artist and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Piano at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Previously, he was a faculty member at The College of Wooster and The Cleveland Institute of Music. Described by New York Concert Review as a “thoughtful and accomplished performer” and that his playing was “impressive for it’s maturity and refinement,” Mr. Huang has gained international recognition for his artistry and technical command.

This album includes the complete Franz Schubert Sonatas for Violin and Piano, performed on period instruments. Elizabeth Holowell is an eminent teacher of violin and viola, chamber music and string orchestra, with extensive experience at universities and music colleges in Australasia and Britain. Her graduates are found in many major international orchestras. She was herself a student of Robert Pikler who was, in turn, taught by Hubay and by Thibaud. Elizabeth was a core member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra and has played in the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the William Hennessy String Quartet, and the Newcastle University Piano Trio. Erin Helyard has been acclaimed as an inspiring conductor, a virtuosic and expressive performer of the harpsichord and fortepiano, and as a lucid scholar who is passionate about promoting discourse between musicology and performance. Erin graduated in harpsichord performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with first-class honours and the University Medal. He completed his Masters in fortepiano performance and a PhD in musicology with Tom Beghin at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University, Montreal. He was named the Westfield Concert Scholar (Cornell University) on fortepiano for 2009-2010 and from 2003 to 2012 Erin was a central member of the award-winning Ensemble Caprice (Montreal). As Artistic Director and co-founder of the celebrated Pinchgut Opera and the Orchestra of the Antipodes (Sydney) he has forged new standards of excellence in historically-informed performance in Australia.

U.S.-based Polish pianist Elzbieta Bilicka has been praised for organic combination of thought and emotion. This can be keenly felt in this evocative program Lights & Shadows. Elzbieta Bilicka was born in Slupsk (Poland). In 2011 she finished the music school in her hometown and passed her leaving examinations at the III Navy High School in Gdynia. In 2016 she got the Masters of Arts degree at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz where she studied with Agata Nowakowska-Gumiela, Alberto Nos and Katarzyna Popowa-Zydron. From 2016 to 2018 she was a member of the class of Nelson Goerner at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Geneve in Switzerland. Elzbieta has taken part in various piano competitions winning prizes and distinctions. The latest and most important of them are: the honorable mention, laureate title and special prizes for the best rendition of a W.A. Mozart concerto and I.J. Paderewski pieces at the X International Ignacy Jan Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz (2016) and the 3rd prize at the Polish Chopin Piano NIFC Competition in Katowice (2016). In 2018 Elzbieta was awarded The Young Poland Scholarship of the Polish Minister of Culture.

French musician, harpsichordist, and composer Elisabeth Claude Jacquet de la Guerre was born on March 17, 1665 into a family of musicians and master instrument makers. Rather than just teach her brothers, Elisabeth’s father, a master harpsichord maker, taught her as well. She was one of the few well-known female composers of her time. She mastered many forms in her compositions. The present release showcases the three violin sonatas that she composed in 1707. The artists featured here – violinist Dana Maiben, gambist Sarah Cunningham, and harpsichordist Lisa Goode Crawford- are experts in historical performance practice and give these works the life they deserve.

Established by pianists and Lamar University faculty members Sujung Cho and Jacob Clark, Duo Korusa is a versatile piano duo/duet team dedicated to the performance of lesser-known works of the 19th and 20th century, as well as new works of the 21st century.

Started in 2012, Duo Korusa has been performing composed piano duet works throughout the United States.

Their recording of Diabelli’s Sonata in C major for Piano Four Hands has been published by Symposium, the peer-reviewed journal of CMS and is available in the recording archives of Symposium’s online journal.

Duo Korusa has worked closely with the composer Thomas Dempster, premiering his work “Congaree Voices” for piano duet and electronic track at the South Carolina Music Teachers State Conference at Anderson University and then performing it at the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival at the Abrons Arts Center and Electroacoustic Barn Dance at the University of Mary Washington.

David Denizon was born in Paris, France, where he received his early education. He moved to the US in 1984 to study at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee under Efim Boico. He then moved to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts while studying under Arkady Fomin. Upon graduating, he joined the New American Chamber Orchestra, an eleven member conductorless string ensemble. With that group, he toured extensively throughout Europe and performed in many of Europe’s prestigious concert halls like Salle Pleyel in Paris and Herkulessaal in Munich, and Chamber Music Festivals, such as the Nortaljee(Sweden), Santander, Granada, Deia(Spain), Vence and Val-de-Charentes(France) Festivals. He then returned to the US to become Assistant Principal Second of the Knoxville Symphony and Chamber Orchestra. While in Knoxville he performed several times as soloist with the Knoxville Chamber Orchestra and was active as a chamber musician. Later he became a member of the New World Symphony and participated in their Japan and U.K tours and in their Grammy Nominated recording of Latin American Music, “ Tangazo“. Currently, David is a member of the lst violin section of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and as well as bring a member of the San Antonio Symphony. He has played with the River City Consort, and Soli, both local chamber ensembles. In March 1997, David was invited to perform at the Festival Musical de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. David was a founding member of the Sierra Grande String Quartet and the Sierra Grande Chamber Music Festival in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. David has soloed with the Laredo Philharmonic in 2007 and 2010, and will again in 2013.

52 chorale preludes, Op. 67, is a collection of 52 settings of popular Protestant hymns for organ by Max Reger, composed between 1900 and 1902. Originally published in three volumes between 1900 and 1903 with the cover title “52 Choralvorspiele für Orgel” (52 chorale preludes for organ), the full title of the collection was “Zweiundfünfzig leicht ausführbare Vorspiele zu den gebräuchlichsten evangelischen Chorälen”.

As a guitarist, Brad DeRoche has explored a wide variety of musical styles ranging from classical masterpieces to modern works by living composers.
