Elmira Darvarova, Howard Wall, Thomas Weaver – Astor Piazzolla: Genius of Tango (2020) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Astor Piazzolla’s greatest masterpieces are given a fresh new interpretation in transcriptions for Violin, Horn, and Piano by three acclaimed artists – Grammy®-nominated violinist Elmira Darvarova (former Concertmaster, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), hornist Howard Wall (New York Philharmonic) and pianist Thomas Weaver. After performing their Piazzolla tribute program internationally at prestigious venues in Europe and America (including Carnegie Hall), the artists have now also recorded it for a double-CD album presenting 14 world-premiere recordings (14 out of 17 tracks). “Astor Piazzolla – Genius of Tango” introduces the artists’ transcriptions from Piazzolla’s original scores. The inclusion of horn brings a new dimension and richly rewarding symphonic sonorities. Several of the arrangements are by the late great tango pianist Octavio Brunetti (named by the New York Philharmonic “the inheritor of Piazzolla’s mantle”), with whom violinist Elmira Darvarova performed and recorded for several years.

Eric Plutz – BACH: The Gamut from A to Z (2023) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Eric Plutz – BACH: The Gamut from A to Z (2023) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Our second release by organist Eric Plutz debuts on Friday June 16, “BACH -The Gamut From A To G”.

A somewhat complex description about the album is that Princeton University Organist Plutz realized that a compelling single program of J. S. Bach’s Preludes / Toccatas / Fantasias & Fugues for organ could be formed by performing them in diatonic order – one for each key: A, B, C etc.

In Western music that sequence is known as ‘the Gamut.’

This album therefore aligns with Bach’s own deep sense for order and was recorded on the Princeton University organ at the Princeton University Chapel (the third largest college chapel in the world).

In simpler words – something beautiful and wondrous to listen to.

Close your eyes, turn up the volume and be enveloped by the luscious sound of Bach’s music, Princeton’s organ & chapel and Eric’s magnificent touch on the keys.

Performing, recording and commissioning music by the legendary conductor and composer José Serebrier, throughout my almost 15-years long friendship and collaboration with him, has never been, for me, less than utterly fascinating and inspiring. José Serebrier (born in 1938) is today’s most frequently-recorded conductor, has collaborated with some of the world’s greatest soloists and orchestras, and is among the most sought-after guest conductors, constantly touring with major orchestras around the world. Serebrier established himself as a significant composer as far back as the 1950s, with over 100 published works. Born in Uruguay, of Russian and Polish parents, Serebrier composed music and conducted orchestras since early childhood, conceiving his Opus 1 – Sonata for solo violin at the age of 9, and making his conducting debut at age 11.
