The debut album of pianist Friederike Sieber Seelenübervoll is featuring lieder from the late Romantic period and works by Alma Mahler, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Richard Strauss, and Alexander von Zemlinsky are performed. This production of five outstanding young singers resurrects the musical salon’s idea and gifts us a wealth of rarely performed songs. The turn of the century 1900 was a time “brimming” with sensation and an exuberant soul: the exceptional young performers enable us to feel extreme emotional states through their interpretations, which tell of an extraordinary and artistically fruitful epoch.

On their new GENUIN CD, baritone Florian Götz and the musicians of the Grundmann-Quartett dare to present well-known works in new contexts: they perform Franz Schubert’s moving „Winterreise” in a version in which the vocal part is accompanied by English horn and string trio. Exciting chromatic worlds open up, and the moods of the individual songs take on new plasticity and tremendous expressive power. The subtle arrangement by Eduard Wesly, the uniquely personal baritone voice of Florian Götz, and the nuanced tonal mixtures of woodwind and strings all contribute equally to this.

The series of Mozart symphonies, recorded by Johannes Klumpp with “his” Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen at GENUIN, enters the second round. The tradition-steeped orchestra now juxtaposes the first and last symphonies of the Viennese composer of choice: Early and late works in direct comparison, the alpha and omega of Mozart’s symphonic cycle, so to speak. The ensemble thus draws connections between works that lie 25 years apart. Its joy of playing and virtuosity brilliantly illuminate Mozart’s innovative power and artistic mastery!

Ensemble Obligat Hamburg – Brahms: Serenade No. 1 in D Major, Op. 11 – Spohr: Nonet in F Major, Op. 31 (2021) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Twenty-five years of “Ensemble Obligat”: reason enough to celebrate and honor an extraordinary chamber music formation. On it’s anniversary release on GENUIN, Ensemble Obligat has expanded into a chamber orchestra with soloists to present Johannes Brahms’ Serenade No. 1 and Louis Spohr’s large Nonet in F major. These are two pieces that require a balance between soloistic leadership and overall sound, a quality that the ensemble embodies perfectly. Brahms’ youthful work takes on a chamber-music-like sonority in this version. The nonet of the “German Paganini,” who broke exciting new ground in his time, benefits from the ensemble’s harmonious spirit.

Ensemble il capriccio – Bach: Die Kunst des Sterbens – Ars moriendi (2022) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

The texts of the recorded arias and chorale arrangements by Bach deal with death, eternity and the promise of eternal life. The musicians juxtapose the works, some of which have been carefully arranged, with selected sections from the Art of Fugue. The result is an artistic and moving musical tapestry, interpreted by Franz Vitzthum and the ensemble il capriccio with intensity and sensitivity.

In doing so, she focuses on the private sides of well-known and lesser-known composers. The recording includes three premiere recordings of works by Gustav Mahler, Alfred Zamara, and Elias Parish Alvars. Ercole Nisini, Zita Mikijanska, Tobias Schade – Love Songs, Vol. 1 (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

In jazz today, they would be called “standards”, the madrigals and motets of the Renaissance upon which the great musicians of the time improvised. The internationally active trombonist Ercole Nisini wants to revive this incredibly vital music-making practice on his new GENUIN Album: He interprets written-down improvisations from old sources but also improvises and composes anew on themes of the time. The list of composers on this exciting album reads like a Who’s Who of the most famous musicians of the 16th and 17th centuries: Palestrina, Monteverdi, Frescobaldi, de Rore, and many more! “Love Songs” from a bygone era – yet therefore no less thrilling than today’s love songs…

Cánovas’ composition is a journey into the vast interior of our dreams and desires. Exciting chamber music in unusual interpretations!

Two experienced chamber musicians, who have already worked as soloists with the Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester, present a duo album on GENUIN of works ranging from the late Romantic period to the 21st century. A recording that crosses all boundaries, Eva-Christina Schönweiß (violin) and Kirsten Ecke (harp) have put together an exciting program featuring music of people in transit and in search of a home. In doing so, they wander through a wide variety of cultures, performing duos by the great masters of classical modernism such as Maurice Ravel and Astor Piazzolla, as well as contemporary music by Roman Ryterband, Thomas Rajna, Hooshyar Khayam and Jean Michel Damase. The two instruments complement each other perfectly; the floating sounds of the harp and the sonorous warmth of the violin make for distinctive and exciting tonal blends.

Eliot Quartett, Dmitry Ablogin – Le temps retrouvé (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 48 kHz]

The Eliot Quartet offers a reminiscence of César Franck, the magician of sound, on its new recording in co-production with SWR. To mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Belgium’s greatest composer, the multinational ensemble has combined Franck’s only string quartet with his celebrated piano quintet. The friendship between the quartet and pianist Dmitry Ablogin bears musical fruit on this album, as the five musicians weave an intense web of sound between keyboard and strings in the Piano Quintet. Both works here testify César Franck’s mastery and ability to conjure vast sweeping lines in the most harmonically and melodically refined late Romantic garb!

A young ensemble backed with over 400 years of history is releasing its debut album with GENUIN: the Dresden Chamber Soloists are all members of the Sächsische Staatskapelle, one of the most tradition-rich orchestras in the world. The album proves, however, that for the top musicians, tradition is not merely a matter of maintaining the legacy but of passing the torch. On this album, the ensemble combines Beethoven’s famous Septet (the composer’s most successful piece of his lifetime!) with a new work written for the same instrumentation, Simone Fontanelli’s gestural Dresden Septet – Homage to Beethoven. A worthwhile world premiere recording!

Duo Arp Frantz – Arpeggio (2023) [FLAC 24 bit, 48 kHz]

Cellist Julian Arp and pianist Caspar Frantz are presenting a very personal album at GENUIN: Around two pieces by composer and conductor Klaus Arp, the two are creating a highly emotional program with works by Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach and Astor Piazzolla. The memory of his uncle Julian Arps was the impetus for this production, which combines chamber music over the centuries: from the great bows in Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata to Bach’s first solo suite for cello to Piazzolla’s brilliant Grand Tango. At the center of the album are two works by Klaus Arp, namely his finely branching To two hands and the rhapsodic narrative Suitencello. Moving chamber music!
