The virtues of Boris Ivanovich Tishchenko’s music are many and can be discussed at various levels – from the perception of the listener to detailed musical analysis, yet its most important virtue is that of resistance. Let me begin by mentioning the eternal opposition in music between the Good, the loftiness of the human spirit and universal Evil. It is precisely this which is the subject of the huge work of the composer’s last years – the cycle of Dante-symphonie.
