Elodie Vignon – Dans l’air du soir (2021) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

For her third album, Élodie Vignon chooses the voice of romanticism. Like her first two Cypres albums, which presented mirrors between music and poetry, then between two French aesthetics, she proposes here a cross between the intimate Franz Liszt and the young Isaac Albéniz. Although the two romantic composers were of different origins, the two aesthetes were united by their taste for travel and their affinity with France, its language and culture. Liszt and Albéniz both met Debussy, who remains the epicenter of the recording work in which Elodie wishes to engage.

Ensemble Fractales – Fractales (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

Ensemble Fractales – Fractales (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

For this portrait album, which inaugurates their collaboration with Cypres, the Fractales ensemble has chosen to bring together four key pieces from their repertoire, four quintets in which the alchemy between the ensemble’s sound and the work of the composers is revealed, the fruit of numerous exchanges between musicians and creators. Saturated textures, erased melodies, extra-western inspirations and games of temporality are among other things on the programme of this adventure. Fractales symbolically evokes the vision that the ensemble has of today’s musical composition: a scene that is infinitely fragmented, irregular and plural, but in which each creation illustrates a common and shared search for the individualisation of musical languages. Their artistic work aims to highlight this diversity, while bringing together these writings in a spirit of sound exploration.

Ensemble Kheops – Brahms, Berg, Zemlinsky (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

Ensemble Kheops – Brahms, Berg, Zemlinsky (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

For it’s second recording for Cypres, Kheops Ensemble immerses us in works that give pride of place to the clarinet, an instrument whose expressive possibilities fascinated the most original creators in the Habsburg capital at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Brahms’s Trio op. 114, dominated by autumnal colors, is an end-of-life work, imbued with a form of renunciation and resignation. The Four Pieces op. 5, dedicated to the master Schönnberg, exude a striking expressiveness, the kind of expressiveness that Berg has always managed to preserve in all his research. In his Trio op. 3, Zemlinsky, who makes no secret of his admiration for op. 114, develops an intense and tumultuous harmonic universe that marks the generational leap with Brahms. Kheops Ensemble, a variable-geometry group combining winds and strings under the sign of individual virtuosity at the service of the collective, radiates maturity and carries the colors of chamber music high in Belgium.

Ensemble Hopper – H#1|2|3|4 (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

A carte blanche, offered by the Cypres label, invited us to discover the sound universe of composer Pierre Slinckx by simultaneously publishing his first two albums: C#1 for large organ and electronics and M#1 for string quartet and electronics. Today, Pierre Slinckx brilliantly pursues his quest to integrate electronics into chamber music in order to erase the boundaries between synthetic and natural music. H#1, written for the Ensemble Hopper, is an ecstatic trip through radiant, powerful, somewhat psychedelic waves of endlessly blossoming sounds and obsessively rising textures.

Elodie Vignon – D’ombres (2020) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Elodie Vignon – D’ombres (2020) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

“D’ombres…”
This program is a continuation of the first album dedicated to Debussy’s Études, which revealed pianist Elodie Vignon to the public. Dutilleux has a close relationship with Debussy in his sensory approach to music. Composed just after the Second World War, his Piano Sonata reminds us, in some aspects, of Claude Debussy’s Pour le piano, also composed after another Great War. The composition of the Three Preludes, spread over a period of fifteen years, testifies to the composer’s desire to change his style and syntax, making it less linear and traditional. Claude Ledoux emerges from the shadows and delivers a work that seeks to translate the world in which we live, a world of silence and sound in perpetual transformation.

Elodie Vignon – Claude Debussy: Etudes (2018) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Elodie Vignon – Claude Debussy: Etudes (2018) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

The pianist Élodie Vignon discovered and explored this perilous repertory of Debussy when she was still very young… She captured its poetic power, and she has never confused it with the vague and the approximate. She understood very early on that, for a pianist, Debussy’s last great cycle presented an inexhaustible reservoir of passion and rigour, of fire and precision, of work and relaxation. Her committed, precise interpretation, that keeps her ever in movement, ever in investigation, shows this, and she does not hide it, declaring that the “Études” never tire her and that, wherever she may be in the world, she feels at home when she plays them. The second part of the album counts twelve poems by the Belgian poet Lucien Noullez written for Élodie Vignon and her vision of the Études. Clara Inglese tell them above the echo of Élodie’s music.

Elsa de Lacerda – CHANGE (2022) [FLAC 24 bit, 192 kHz]

In history, certain music has had a practical, concrete role, a role of powerful gathering, an essential role…Elsa de Lacera and Pierre Solot wanted to sublimate the memory of these musics that changed the world by bringing together eleven melodies, arias and songs. An order was placed to ten Belgian and French composers, young and old, men and women: they chose their melody, their fight, and they received carte blanche to revive these memories and these great moments of history through new compositions. Eleven songs of struggle, resistance, eleven fists raised in music among many others in the history of the world, this history that must not be forgotten, whose musical reminiscences resonate at the heart of these eleven creations of today, for change, peace and fraternity.

A classical cellist, soloist of the Orchestre symphonique de la Monnaie, involved in chamber music, jazz/ rock and folk/fiddle meets an eclectic pianist familiar with Bach, Chopin, Franck or Corrigliano as much as with jazz and improvisation. Loco Motive Trio and Blade Runner band for the first one, Soledad for the second one and until 2014, Trio Talweg for both of them (founded in 2004 with Sébastien Surel) : Sébastien Walnier and Alexander Gurning pride very seriously opening up musical approaches, faithful to each musical style they play and free to travel from one world to another. Between «walking» and «awakening», Walning explores different musical styles in all simplicity.

Ô-Celli – Ô-Celli in America (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

What can sound better than a cello? Eight cellos! This instrument, the closest to the human voice, is one of the few which carries being multiplied. When played together with others, the beauties of this intrument add up, giving birth to a unique, full and exceptional sound. Ô-Celli was brought to life by the shared passion of eight cellists, chamber musicians and concertists, for this exceptional vibration they created. Together, they take us on a fabulous journey through a repertoire of both original and arranged pieces, as they eagerly travel through a wide musical panel, ranging from Tchaikovsky to Strauss, passing by the music of Piazzolla and Nino Rota.

Ô-Celli – The Sunnyside of Ô-Celli (2019) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Eight solo cellists, all chamber musicians and concert artists, combine their energies and dreams in order to create an audacious and astonishing program, full of warmth and sensuality in the southern sun. Each arrangement is for them a challenge and a pleasure. Flamenco spirit, impressionist poetry or epicurean appetite, gentle grace and sentimental melody, melancholic tango or festive mambo.

This album is a burning invitation to travel. Fascinating tracklisting in which O-Celli radiates the passion of its performers.

Béatrice Martin – Les Sauvages (2015) [FLAC 24bit, 48 kHz]

Béatrice Martin – Les Sauvages (2015) [FLAC 24bit, 48 kHz]

Les Sauvages by Béatrice Martin carries you beyond the seriousness of this world towards the celestial delights of an ‘oriental’ dream drawn in Indian ink. For her first solo disc, Béatrice Martin has chosen one of the most prestigious harpsichords made by the famous Ruckers of Antwerp, an instrument until then never used in a recording, and an encounter of truly heartfelt emotion. With this alchemy of the ineffable – that of the greatest artistes of this world –

Béatrice Martin harmonises the sensitivity, the fervour and the fantasies of the uncontested masters of the French harpsichord school: apart from these veritable ‘hits’ of the French baroque that are Les Sauvages, L’Egyptienne and La Passacaille d’Armide, this unique disc is a waking dream. Coloured with that exoticism so dear to Rameau, Couperin, Forqueray and yet also Royer and Anglebert, it brightens, with its ‘Lights’ of the kingdom of France, this exquisite world of a long-awaited elsewhere, this dream of the Phoenix come from an unexpected ‘Orient’. Listeners, yield yourselves – a thousand and one nights – to the infinitely matchless touch of one of the finest international harpsichord players.

Akhtamar Quartet – Légende arménienne (2020) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

The miniatures of Komitas have the merit of being able to condense in a few minutes all aspects of Armenian musical culture. Each of them is an invitation to travel, allowing us to discover the soul of a country through its music, both joyful and nostalgic. Thanks to his arrangements for string quartet, Serguey Aslamazyan gives these miniatures their nobility and amplifies their emotional impact without distorting the message they convey. This message of peace and hope is also the one that Eugénie Alécian wishes to transmit to us with Un quatuor arménien, a powerful work narrating a country that never stops dancing and singing despite the intense pain.

Akhtamar Quartet – Enluminures (2023) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Debussy’s string quartet op. 10 was considered perturbing at the time on the Parisian music scene and has since become an absolute staple of quartet repertoire. It sweeps us along the most unexpected harmonic pathways and takes inspiration from sound-worlds as diverse as jazz, gamelan ensembles and Spanish folk music. Rich in colour and exotic tonalities, this poetic masterpiece frees itself from traditional Western customs and stands as a unique bridge between different cultures. It was the famous Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaye’s string quartet who commissioned the work. They later defended it from the many accusations of “too modern”. With Opus 10’s ties to Belgium, France and Armenia, The Akhtamar quartet immediately related to it and placed the piece at the heart of their repertoire. The Akhtamar quartet chose its name in reference to both the ancient Armenian myth and the Komitas Miniatures arranged by Aslamazyan, which they have played with passion since their formation.

Adrien Tsilogiannis – Adrien Tsilogiannis: S’élancer (2023) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Adrien Tsilogiannis – Adrien Tsilogiannis: S’élancer (2023) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

This first monographic CD by Belgian composer Adrien Tsilogiannis is dedicated to his music for ensemble, which is largely dominant in his work. These compositions draw on poetic sources as ecstatic as they are abundant: Eugène Guillevic, Serge Venturini, Jean Moréas, to name but a few. Here, everything participates in the meeting of sound and atmosphere, the ensembles convened for each piece all seem to share a single breath, a breath at the service of emotion in its universality. Thomas Van Haeperen and Ensemble Sturm und Klang bring this music to life by giving it a crazy energy, a dimension and a striking relief!
