Franz Hauk – J.S. Bach from Ingolstadt (2021) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

This release follows on from Priory occasional series featuring the music of J.S.Bach. Previous releases have highlighted the playing of this composer on an English cathedral organ and not an instrument of his time. This splendid organ is not in this category and is a new instrument by the firm of Wegscheider and is in complete contrast to the more famous Klais organ at the west end of the Minster.

The organ has been captured well by the engineers, which in turn produces a magnificent sound. While the playing might not be for purists, there are certainly many admirable moments and it is worth a listen.

David Hirst – Colours of the Collegiale – David Hirst plays the Organs of Notre Dame de Mantes-la-jolie (2023) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

This is the first recording made by David Hirst for Priory. He has chosen a little known instrument on which to play a popular programme of mainly French music, featuring works from Louis Vierne, César Franck, Eugène Gigout, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, John Stanley, and more!

David Halls, John Challenger, The Choir of Salisbury Cathedral – Poetry in Music: Musical Settings of Words by George Herbert (2019) [FLAC 24 bit, 44,1 kHz]

George Herbert was local to the area of Salisbury and this recital features much of the poetry that inspired many British composers. Although many of the pieces are in the repertoire of cathedral choirs, modern settings from Judith Bingham, Barry Ferguson, Alec Roth, Alexander Brent Smith and David Halls will be a first for the catalogues. This is another recording from the choir of Salisbury Cathedral who have worked exclusively with Priory for the past decade.

Christopher Allsop – Worcester Spectacular (2019) [FLAC 24 bit, 44,1 kHz]

Christopher Allsop – Worcester Spectacular (2019) [FLAC 24 bit, 44,1 kHz]

To celebrate the new organ by Kenneth Tickell in Worcester Cathedral, Priory presents a lollipops CD to demonstrate its versatility. Christopher Allsop, then Assistant Director of Music at the cathedral ( and now of the Choir School) puts the organ through its paces. To obtain the best seat in the house Priory put its microphones high to the east of the two cases to obtain what we consider the best place from which to hear this instrument. This organ will be enlarged in the coming years.

Catherine Ennis – The Organ of St. Bartholomew’s, Orford (2020) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Catherine Ennis is a leading concert organist. The organ in St.Bartholomew’s church, a Peter Collins instrument, was originally sited in The Turner Sims Hall in Southampton and moved to Orford, to the church where Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde was given its first performance, in 2017. This is the first commercial recording of this fine instrument.

Colin Walsh – J.S. Bach: Colin Walsh Plays the Organ of Lincoln Cathedral (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

Colin Walsh sets down another programme of Bach. His first album was received with much critical acclaim and firmly endorses the fact that he is undoubtedly one of the finest organists of his generation. Dr Walsh was recently made Organist Emeritus of Lincoln Cathedral and he is now recognised as the Legend of Lincoln. A series of his live recitals will appear on this label for download and streaming only in the coming months.
