Florian Wielgosik – Home (2019) [FLAC 24 bit, 48 kHz]

Florian Wielgosik – Home (2019) [FLAC 24 bit, 48 kHz]

The birth of this cd is due to the desire of Florian Wielgosik, solo tuba of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, to make the tuba better known. Indeed, in most people’s minds, this instrument occupies a role reduced either to the brass band or to limited interventions within the framework of a symphony orchestra. Florian Wielgosik therefore wanted to give an impression, through a choice of very diverse composers and works (German, Polish, Argentinean, French), of some of the music in which the tuba can express itself differently from that of the Solo tuba, the one in front, but more as a participant in chamber music, more intimate and mixed with the others in a humble and fertile exchange. All this is found in this testimony he offers us.

Ensemble des Equilibres, Agnès Pyka, Laurent Wagschal – Brahms aujourd’hui… (2021) [FLAC 24 bit, 88,2 kHz]

Ensemble des Equilibres, Agnès Pyka, Laurent Wagschal – Brahms aujourd’hui… (2021) [FLAC 24 bit, 88,2 kHz]

Brahms ‘ three sonatas for violin and piano form an ensemble picked up in time, barely ten years between the first and the last. In these works, the mastered language is put at the service of Brahms poetry where his sensitivity to nature, his literary references and his personal introspection emerge.

Elise Bertrand – Lettera Amorosa (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

The whole of my work as a composer draws on and represents a continuation of the tradition of the forms and language of 20th century expanded tonal music. Initiated since the age of fourteen by Nicolas Bacri in organicity, the balance between counterpoint and harmony in form, I have gradually forged my identity around a poetic language influenced by other arts (most notably modern and contemporary painting and post-war French poetry). In this sense, my Lettera Amorosa flute quartet is inspired by literature, named after the homonymous collection by Rene Char, itself influenced by Monteverdi’s madrigal.

Ensemble Il Caravaggio, Camille Delaforge – Madonna della Grazia (2021) [FLAC 24 bit, 192 kHz]

With this program entitled Madonna della grazia by allusion to one of the popular songs the component, the Ensemble Il Caravaggio proposes to illustrate a journey around the figure of the Woman in Italy. Mother, washerwoman, beloved, the Woman is portrayed in all these beauties. Present in Italian culture, Marie also finds an important musical reflection in learned and popular Italy. Thus, at the detour of fishermen who celebrate the Madonna in their wild tarantella, the Ensemble Il Caravaggio criss-crosses the Italian alleys and makes heard learned songs and folk songs that radiate to the confines of the sacred and the profane.

Ensemble Zene, Bruno Kele-Baujard – Via Dolorosa (2018) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

A remarkable synthesis of the Renaissance and Baroque, the Stabat Mater for ten solo voices is the central link of Via Dolorosa. The programme for this disc is a meditative journey through the suffering of the Virgin Mary. Based around the Stabat Mater, different European masterpieces (by Purcell, Lotti, Byrd, Allegri) accentuate this journey and seem to create a Saint Mary’s Passion.

Duo W – Contrastes (2020) [FLAC 24 bit, 88,2 kHz]

Duo W – Contrastes (2020) [FLAC 24 bit, 88,2 kHz]

Since 2005, the duo W has been bringing together Vincent Barras on saxophones and Vincent Thévenaz on organ, in inventive, colourful and exciting arrangements… Their repertoire goes off the beaten track, crossing history to privilege moments of emotion and expression and to exploit the possibilities of their two instruments in an innovative way.

For their third album, the duo W continues their search for different sounds, but with a focus on contrasts: of eras, through centuries of musical literature; of styles, with classical, traditional, jazz or musical comedy pieces; of characters or timbres, between poignant melodies and frenzied rhythms!

Duo Seigle, Noëmi Waysfeld – Voyages intérieurs (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 88,2 kHz]

We are two brothers from Lyon who come from a family of musicians and who have been playing as a duo for a number of years; our principal goal is to forge emotional bonds and to maintain the closest possible relationship with our audience. We want to discover little-played works and share them with audiences in places that are not necessarily renowned, but where the dialogue is rich and rewarding.

Dimitri Papadopoulos – Godowsky-Bach: Cello Suites (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

This recording represents the coming together of three giants: the immense Johann Sebastian Bach, the king of the piano Leopold Godowsky, and Stephen Paulello’s sublime Opus 102 instrument.

A true star in his time, Leopold Godowsky (1870-1938) was the most sought-after and best-paid virtuoso of the period known as the ‘golden age’ of the piano.

Travelling the world to perform concerts, this workaholic taught his art in the most prestigious institutions (New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Berlin, Vienna). His hand-picked students called him Mr. God. He trained a whole generation of first-rate pianists, including Jorge Bolet and Heinrich Neuhaus, who was to become the most famous pedagogue of the 20th century.
He was at ease in society, frequenting the great scientists (Albert Einstein), Hollywood actors (Charlie Chaplin) and painters (Henri Matisse).

He also befriended the highest echelons of the musical world: Horowitz, Rachmaninov, Rubinstein, Busoni, Hofmann, Friedman, Paderewski for pianists, but also composers: Saint-Saëns, Ravel, Mahler, Gershwin, Grieg…

Duo Alma, Clara Danchin, Anna Jbanova – Créatrices (2022) [FLAC 24bit, 96 kHz]

The recording presented here, whose programme allows us to discover or rediscover more or less unknown scores, has nothing to do with an opportunistic commission, anxious to be part of a fashionable movement; in this case the militant promotion of female composition. Of course, the nobility of such a cause has not escaped the two performers, Clara Danchin and Anna Jbanova, but, more generally, the fervour of their playing imposes above all the idea that it is appropriate to do justice to works that should not be relegated to the rank of simple curiosities. The museum function of the recording plays its part, but from a perspective that clearly aims to encourage concert performances. There are certain scores, in fact, that were victims of the contrary winds of fate, and Marguerite Canal’s Sonata, for example, could not better illustrate this point. It is well known that the great Enesco was inspired by the work, but his sudden death meant that he was unable to carry out his plan to perform it in public.

Damien Ventula – Concertos (2021) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Damien Ventula – Concertos (2021) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

Hailed by the critics for his latest album devoted to the Master of Chamber Music Gabriel Fauré, Damien Ventula returns with his first album as a soloist accompanied by the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra. This time again, French music will be in the spotlight with Camille Saint-Saëns’ famous concerto op.33 transcribed by Gilles Colliard for cello and string orchestra, but also a premiere with Thierry Huillet’s concerto op.99 which was written for him. All this is completed by three little gems for cello and orchestra, including Maurice Ravel’s Habanera.

Christophe Sturzenegger – An Einsamer Quelle – A une source solitaire (2020) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

The “An einsamer Quelle” project is the sequel to the “Sublime Idylle” CD which was released in 2018 by Klarthe. The project was dedicated to the works of Clara and Robert Schumann and already underlined the lyricism of the piano, notably with the op.39 lieder by Robert, adapted for the piano by Clara. For this new disc, the voice is once again in the spotlight, with transcriptions of the Lieder Morgen (1894) and Allerseelen (1885) arranged by Max Reger. And what could be more interesting than weaving a bond between Schumann, Strauss… and us! The Strauss who wrote his op.3 and op.9 in the 1880s is the same composer who, in 1948, would gratify us with his masterpiece “Vier Letzte Lieder” (Four last songs).

Brenda Poupard, Jean-Michel Kim – Ivresse de l’aube (2023) [FLAC 24 bit, 96 kHz]

When French melody, one of the most subtle of art forms, meets the most concise forms of Japanese poetry, the Haiku and the Waka, the result is a mesmerising kaleidoscope of colour. The scenes described in these ancient Japanese poems have inspired the imagination of French composers for over a century. It is the emotional force that emanates from these writings that is the primary reason for the genesis of this CD of Franco-Japanese melodies.

Alexandre Collard, Jean Daufresne, Mathilde Nguyen – Miroir (2020) [FLAC 24bit, 44,1 kHz]

Following the thread of the violin, Agnes Pyka crosses four centuries of music. Versatile instrument, sometimes dancing, or virtuoso, the violin is also the link between different musical aesthetics.

In Bach’s Partita, which honors the popular chaconne of Hispanic origin, the violin symbolizes the peak of Baroque art, offering the musician a rich range of techniques of this period. At Khachaturian, he evokes Balkan folklore, while Thierry de Mey makes it the instrument of a surprising variation of the very “courteous” Passacaille.
